1, 2, 3, Kultummel - exhibition extended until 30.11.2019!
Great learning fun for all active children aged 3 to 11 years
Diversity: Where does it come from, where can it be found, and how do we meet it? With its 24th exhibition "1, 2, 3, Kultummel", the Labyrinth Children’s Museum Berlin explores the endless and rich world of diversity.
In its 24th Exhibition, the Labyrinth Children’s Museum focuses on a highly topical matter: diversity. Against the background of racial change and flight worldwide, children aged 3-11 years can focus upon the diversity being generated – and discover the advantages and strength of an open community with awareness and happiness. An exciting world of “Kultummel” is offered on 1.000 sq. m in the former assembly hall of the listed machine factory are turned into an exciting Kultummel-world. At each station – the pop-ups – visitors big and small find fascinating activities, questions and stimuli regarding topics of cultural and human diversity. The pop-ups play with the abundance of diversity, which can be found in cultures, but also in goods, thoughts and the individualities of the human race. The discovery of diversity starts at the large world course with a visit to the six continents, a first chance to change perspectives, to look at each other, to reflect and to start communicating with each other…
“We want to not only display cultural and human diversity, but also aim to improve awareness of our surroundings and ourselves. To experience diversity means to reconsider seemingly familiar things, and to allow space for the world’s complexity. We see diversity as an infinite number of possibilities, solutions, ways, questions and answers. A diversity that could help especially young people in the future to master their responsibility for society with wisdom and Kultummel.” says Ursula Pischel, the managing director of the Children’s Museum.
The exhibition with the diversifly…
Discovering, transforming and shaping diversity: all that is possible at 13 hands-on exhibits, inspired by modern pop-up stores, be it the large world course with the six continents, be it a try-on in the changing room, travelling thoughts in the suitcase shop, an exploration of the languages’ diversity in the book store or be it homey stories at the lamp store. The exhibition aims to engage the youngest of our society in the discussion about the value of diversity and to make them co-designers, visionaries, practitioners and new diversiflies. The 13 creative and interactive stations motivate the children to get to know diversity which can be found in food, languages, clothes, history and stories as well as in countries, regions, colours, words, smells, feelings and of course in the fascinating singularity of every single human being.
“1, 2, 3, Kultummel” comes with a framework program such as the summer vacation program 2017 about “Luck” and 2018 about “Colours” as well as numerous creative activities, further education and themed birthday parties. Within the museum’s project “Vielfalt-Forscher” (Diversity-Explorers), children from so-called “Welcome” classes, regular classes, collective accommodation centres for refugees and day-care centres participated in the making of the exhibition.
Main supporter of "1, 2, 3, Kultummel" is the LOTTO-Stiftung Berlin. The Deutsche Kinderhilfswerk has assumed the patronage.
